Mayor Karen Bass yesterday joined Angelenos, community leaders and elected officials for Shine LA to revitalize areas recently vandalized by bad actors who took advantage of the federal government’s chaotic escalation of the reckless raids in Los Angeles. As the administration attempts to divide Angelenos, Mayor Bass' Shine LA movement serves as a powerful symbol of unity, civic pride and the unwavering perseverance of this city. Hear what Downtown leaders are saying about the significance of Shine LA in their communities. Photos are available here.

California State Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez
“I stood alongside Mayor Bass and Angelenos from every corner of our City to show that Los Angeles will not be divided by fear or intimidation. As we work to recover from the harm caused by reckless raids and vandalism, we come together – not just to clean up, but to stand up for our communities. Shine LA is a reflection of our City’s unity, strength and pride. We’re here to say loud and clear: DTLA is open for business, our people are resilient, and LA shines brightest when we stand together.”

Los Angeles City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado
"I’m proud to see our community show up for one another with purpose and heart, a reminder that care and connection are stronger than any challenge we face. This is the spirit of Downtown LA in action."

Cassy Horton, Co-Founder,  Downtown LA Residents Association
“Downtown is for every Angeleno, and events like Shine LA remind us that supporting Downtown isn’t just good for the neighborhood, it’s good for all of LA. DTLA is a diverse, vibrant residential neighborhood of 90,000 people — 30,000 of whom are immigrants. Our neighbors, small business owners, and entire community is facing an especially difficult moment right now. Downtowners are resilient, but we can’t navigate this moment alone. That’s why having a Shine LA event focused on DTLA was especially timely and important. It gave locals and fellow Angelenos the chance to stand together and do some good in the heart of our city. We’re grateful for Mayor Karen Bass, the City team, Council Member Ysabel Jurado, and Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez for shining a light on our home, and we hope that we can keep the investment, collaboration and care going.”

Nella McOsker, CEO, Central City Association of Los Angeles
“Shine LA is a positive way for Angelenos to come together and care for our unique neighborhoods. Downtown LA, home to a thriving residential and business community, continues to face ongoing challenges — from immigration raids to general perceptions of safety. CCA was proud to support this event and highlight continued investments needed for Downtown’s success.”

Blair Besten, Executive Director, Historic Core Business Improvement District
“It is always amazing when we have an opportunity to demonstrate how much of a community we are in Downtown LA. Thanks to our city leaders and the people that gave up a Saturday morning to make Spring Street Park shine!”
