05/21/2025

Mayor Bass issued her latest Executive Directive to support the local film and television industry. This new Executive Directive lowers costs and streamlines city processes for on-location filming and increases access to iconic city locations including the Central Library, Port of LA and Griffith Observatory to make the City more friendly and supportive of local filming. Leaders in the film and television industry celebrate Mayor Bass’ action to keep L.A.’s legacy industry in Los Angeles. Read about the new Executive Directive here.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Producer and CEO of The Gotham Group, Chairperson of the Mayor’s Entertainment Industry Council:

“Mayor Bass has been a champion of the Los Angeles filmmaking community for years. We are facing a perfect storm of severe challenges in the current economy and entertainment landscape and under her leadership we are taking accelerated steps to promote growth and ease the production burden, both financially and operationally.  It’s vital and encouraging that so many concerned industry groups have now joined that fight. This gives us hope that we will be the leading hub of film and television production in the world for decades to come."

Charles Rivkin, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association:

“Mayor Bass clearly recognizes the benefits of a thriving entertainment ecosystem – from the creation of high-quality jobs to sustained economic growth. Today’s actions reflect a commitment to sustain Los Angeles’ role in the film, television, and streaming industry and further support the city’s robust creative community.”

Jodi Long, LA Local President and National VP of LA for SAG-AFTRA:

“SAG-AFTRA is working state-wide and federally, but I'm so excited that the mayor has signed this executive order to bring work back to Los Angeles immediately which will affect not only our SAG-AFTRA and entertainment union members, but also the local community of hard-working Angelenos.”

Michael Miller, IATSE International Vice President and Department Director, Motion Picture & Television:

"We thank Mayor Bass and the various governmental departments for this pro-active response to remove some immediate and longstanding barriers to filming in and around Los Angeles. In what are difficult times, we know film and television production is a vital contributor to our city’s economic health—and its continued loss has an outsized negative impact on the workers in our industry and the vitality of Los Angeles."

Jamie Patricof, Producer and Member of Producers United:

“I’m thrilled that Mayor Bass is taking bold steps to support the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. Runaway production has decimated local filming, and this is a critical initiative to reverse that trend. As a Career Producer and a member of Producers United, I long for the days when we could regularly shoot right here in LA. We have the best craftspeople, actors, writers, and directors in the world—yet too often, we have to board planes to do our jobs. I hope this marks the beginning of a new trend that keeps Hollywood as the film capital of the world.”

Lindsay Dougherty, Teamsters International Vice President, Motion Picture Division Director & Local 399 Principal Officer:

“Today’s Executive Directive by Mayor Bass to make filming on location, within our neighborhoods and iconic landmarks, and throughout our city more accessible, affordable, and streamlined will help to restore not just the film and television work in the industry, but also the hope that Hollywood is here to stay. While we fight to expand our film and television jobs program on the state level to stabilize our industry, we appreciate partnering with Mayor Bass to keep Los Angeles film friendly.”
