Mayor Garcetti, Minister Harrison Sign Historic Memorandum to Promote Sustainable Transportation and Innovation

Mayor Eric Garcetti and Minister Trudy Harrison of the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport today signed a precedent-setting Memorandum of Understanding to share best practices to reduce emissions and adopt more sustainable methods of transportation infrastructure.
“Los Angeles is proud to partner with the UK to speed up our transition to zero-emissions technology,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “This MOU will deepen the bond between our city and the UK, and help move us closer to our shared goal of cleaner air and a healthier, more sustainable future for the people we serve.” This MOU will enable the City of Los Angeles and the UK Department of Transportation to share and collaborate on new technologies and methods to reach their respective climate commitments on emissions reductions in the transportation sector. This MOU is the first signed by both parties after the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP) in Glasgow. This MOU builds on the commitments made at COP26 to accelerate the transition to zero-emission vehicles. “As we look to build on the commitments made at COP26 to accelerate our transition to zero-emission cars and vans, the signing of this MOU marks a new era in how the UK can work together with the City of L.A. to decarbonise transport,” said Transport Minister Trudy Harrison. “By sharing best practices, we can promote innovation in transport as we strive to reach our climate commitments – helping to drive down emissions and clean up the air we breathe on both sides of the Atlantic.”
“The signing of this MOU marks a new era in the already strong relationship between the UK and L.A.,” said British Consul General Emily Cloke. “By sharing our expertise on transport, we will together make progress on areas like reducing greenhouse gas emissions, innovating more sustainable transport and helping improve the lives of people in the UK and L.A.” Back To News |
