Mayor Eric Garcetti  launched Global LA, a new public-private partnership and nonprofit to attract sustainable, inclusive, and job-creating international opportunities to the L.A. region.

“Los Angeles is a global crossroads -- there is simply no better place to start or expand a business than here,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “By making it easier for companies, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs to invest in our city, Global LA will attract international opportunities that benefit Angelenos across our city with good paying jobs and a more resilient, inclusive local economy.”

Global LA will coordinate with the City and its many local stakeholders to promote L.A. on the global stage leading up to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond. Through targeted recruitment, relationship management, and international marketing efforts, Global LA will highlight the many benefits of investing and settling in Los Angeles.

Global LA will focus on sustainability, mobility --- and on attracting companies like VinFast, a Vietnam-based electric car company that announced today its plans to locate its U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles.

“I am excited at the launch of Global LA, a dedicated effort to build L.A.'s global reputation for international business, promote incentives like the State's CalCompetes program, and attract international opportunities that create quality jobs in California," said Dee Dee Myers, Director of GO-Biz. "VinFast's decision today to establish their U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles is just one example of the type of investment and quality jobs that we can bring to the state when we work together.”

In addition to establishing its U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles, VinFast will invest over $200 million and hire more than 1,000 Californians. The Vietnamese company is taking advantage of state and federal incentives of the sort that Global LA will offer.

“We are excited to make Los Angeles the permanent home of VinFast US,” said VinFast US CEO, Van Anh Nguyen. “Southern California is rapidly becoming the epicenter of the advanced transportation world thanks to forward thinking ideas, an abundance of talented workers, and the passion to make transportation electrification a reality. We are grateful to Mayor Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles for the continued support.”

Global LA is a membership-funded organization with an initial City commitment of $500,000 allocated from the 2021-22 Justice Budget. Global LA’s membership base includes companies and non-profits like The Walt Disney Company, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, City National Bank, East West Bank, Evite, Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC), and WasteFuel. Global LA partners include LA28 and the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, among others.
