Homelessness among our nation’s veterans has reached crisis level with more than 1.4 million service men and women exposed to chronic homelessness—it is estimated that on any night more than 40,000 American military veterans are forced to live on the streets.(1) Helping address the problem of homeless veterans is the goal of California-based Vendaval Corp. Solving this urgent problem by disrupting the status quo in housing construction makes Vendaval an ideal fit for JOTO PR Disruptors. “Vendaval is showing the private sector how to step up and take action, when others haven’t been able to nimbly adapt to changing needs,” said Karla Jo Helms, Chief Evangelist and Anti-PR(TM) Strategist at JoTo PR(TM).

Founder and Chairman of Vendaval, Nick Saifan, is a 24-year-Navy/Army veteran who, after retiring from the Army, began a second career as a contractor with the goal of building affordable housing for veterans. His Moreno Valley Project located in Riverside County, California, will include residential units and 30,000-square-feet of retail facilities, offering veterans and independent-living seniors jobs, homes and more, all in one location. The project will also be self-sustaining in that it will include retail space where residents can open stores and funnel the shops’ profits back into the project. In addition to providing affordable housing options in the community, the building of the development will also provide hundreds of construction, retail, and restaurant jobs.

Rental assistance will be provided by the Department of Urban and Housing Development (HUD) and other programs. The Moreno Valley Project will offer a range of services to the residents as well, including veteran programs, counseling and mentoring, job placement assistance and transportation to medical appointments. Additionally, there will be GED training, after school education and childcare, internships and a host of youth programming to help veterans and all residents.

Helms concluded, “Together we will work with Vendaval to raise awareness about the many critical needs veterans are facing at the moment, from homelessness to unemployment. The demand is obvious, so embracing a more disruptive stance makes sense.”

About Vendaval Corporation
Nick Saifan served in the U.S. military for 24 years, including time stationed in Riverside County, California. He experienced firsthand the difficulties of transitioning from military life to civilian life and, as a co-founder of a community-based nonprofit, he watched the difficulty in getting donations increasing year by year. Today, he’s putting his business savvy where his heart is. He sees a community that, like many, has struggled to evolve with a changing employment picture in the region. Today Vendaval Corporation visualizes ?a sustainable business structure creating the opportunity for helping those in need with successful community-based programs. The differentiator in the communities he visualizes is self-sufficient affordable housing in a mixed-use development that offers on-site programs for veterans, youth, education, childcare, on-the-job training and job placement. These programs begin even before ground is broken. Rounding out the community are retail outlets such as bakeries/coffee shops, dry cleaning shops, a paid-membership fitness center and financial institution.
